1. a thing put in place to stay: »

2. a person or thing that stays in one place, job, or other situation: »

3. Law. anything, such as a furnace, sink, or water pipe, that is part of the more or less permanent equipment of a house or property.
4. an event, such as a music festival, international games, tournament, special dramatic performance, or the like, held at regular intervals, as annually: »

a mile-and-a-half grass fixture scheduled for Ascot Heath on July 16 (New York Times).

5. a clamping device for holding a piece of work while it is being machined.
6. the act or process of fixing.
7. the condition of being fixed.
